Çiğdem has been drawing and painting in the same forms and lines since she was year 11 years old, when she started writing her first stories as well. Her art on paper and canvas with diverse media took place in some collective exhibitions in some festivals and were exhibited in the context of her bookperformance events.
She draws / paints soundwaves, lightwaves, frequencies, resonances, auras thus makes the invisible visible with subtle yet strong presence of movement and what it leaves behind as feelings. That is why she calls this visually expressive language the alphabeth of which she knows by birth and by heart and draws as “THE UNIVERSAL ENERGY” that flows through all, allways, all the time. That is how her drawings / paintings, which are an altearnative yet complementary way of writing, become an inevitable part of her bookperformance project, the purpose of which is to give lives to words. As a matter of fact, just like her books and performances that praise co-creating, her drawings / paintings also invite and encourage others to be part of the artwork.
Çiğdem says “All this universal energy that is expressed fundementally through such basic lines are waves of lights and sounds that simply surround humans like singing birds, sacred hearts and secret words. Therefore, all of my work is ‘a sacred garden’ that is transparently imaging all of this wor-L-d”.
In 2021, Çiğdem’s work has been put into light as part of BILY 2021 (Brussels I Love You Art Walk) that focused on emerging young female artists in Belgium in its 2021 edition. Eventually, upon being appreciated, the exhibition has become part of Art Brussels 2021 and BRUNEAF 2021.
In her first solo exhibition, Çiğdem presented her “Gymnopédies” that are inspired by Erik Satie’s notes. It is a journey, as known, with 3 milestones and Çiğdem subtitles/subnames them as follows:
Gymnopédies 1 : “Blissed Encounters” (2 pieces), “The Serendipitious Light” (1 piece), “The Fool Streaming” (1 piece)
Gymnopédies 2 : “Patience (1 piece) & Passion” (1 pieces)
Gymnopédies 3 : “The Gardener” (2 pieces) & “The Wanderer” (2 pieces)
All the pieces have been sold on descent prices, which followed some commisions and orders as well.
